Welcome to My Teaching Art Portfolio

A Journey Through Creative Learning

Throughout my life, I’ve been drawn to education and creativity, surrounded by influences that range from music to visual arts, both digital and traditional. Whether working with young learners or individuals in their golden years, I’ve naturally found myself in spaces that embrace curiosity, exploration, and learning.

This portfolio is my journey in these vibrant environments, reflecting my experiences and growth in art and education.

  • The Artist's Toolbox

For me, being a believer is about choosing hope and light, even in life’s darker moments. This belief has deeply influenced my creative journey. I focus on creating pieces that radiate joy, warmth, and hope, rather than dwelling on hardship. While I cherish the freedom of self-expression, I also recognise the responsibility that comes with it. Not all paths are safe, and as an artist and guide, I believe in fostering understanding, humility, and kindness while offering support and correction when needed.

  • Responsibility

Encouraging freedom of speech must come with the wisdom to guide others away from harm. Love and kindness also mean having the courage to stop someone from unknowingly walking into danger. I strongly believe in the power of thoughts and words to shape reality, and I pour nurturing energy into every creative and personal interaction. My goal is always to leave behind light for others to carry forward.

Academic Achievements

Growth and Achievements

Secondary Education

Though I didn’t fit the A-student mould, my strengths were clear in the subjects I loved, Art and Mathematics - which were continuously inspired by my parents’ architectural backgrounds. These fields left a lasting impact on my life, especially in refining skills like calculations, measurements, and project organisation that became valuable in the real-world.

In high school, I was neither a standout social figure nor hidden away in books. Rather, I found my stride in unique ways and projects. At the time, my involvement with the church and music became central to my personal growth. I played the flute in the church band, led children’s Bible lessons, and joined a youth orchestra at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Cape Town, balancing both individual and community-oriented goals.

Post-Secondary Education

Photography and Design

After finishing high school, I focused on building a diverse skill set that laid the groundwork for my creative journey.
My first year out of school, I earned a part-time certificate in Photography while working full-time as a barista at a popular coffee café. This early experience taught me the value of time management and adaptability. In my second year, with technology rapidly evolving in South Africa, I decided to dive into the digital world by completing a full-time certificate in Desktop Publishing. This step sparked my interest in creative and digital industries, encouraging me to pursue further education.

Post-Secondary Education

Bachelor of Arts Degree

Motivated to grow, I enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Creative Brand Communications program at The AAA School of Advertising in Cape Town, a degree I am immensely proud of. The program was intensive, compressing four years into three by including extra marketing classes after hours, while also working part-time as a waitress at a local golf course, juggling multiple responsibilities while gaining valuable life skills. This blend of practical experience and formal education has provided me with a unique perspective, fuelling my creativity, curiosity, and career journey to this day.

Four Blind Mice Studio

Conceptual Artist & Marketing Assistant

In my first role, I ventured into the digital landscape of education, focusing on reading - the foundation of all learning.

I took on the design, concept, and execution of marketing materials for the educational software, working closely with cross-functional teams to develop creative ideas aligned with the brand identity and goals. My contributions supported the company’s mission to enhance language proficiency and literacy, helping make reading skills more accessible, fun and engaging for learners of all ages.

  • As an English Second Language Conversation Teacher, I aimed to inspire excitement and confidence in English for my students, teaching ten classes of up to 50 students each. My approach was all about making English feel approachable, starting with creative lesson plans that fostered a fun and supportive environment.

  • To keep things engaging, I incorporated elements my students loved, like international music, turning listening exercises into sessions where they could develop their comprehension while enjoying the beat. I also added hands-on art activities where students made paper characters, following English instructions, then presented their creations in English. These little paper creatures, I hear, still live on within the school's teaching walls - a reminder of our lively lessons and their lasting impact on the students’ learning journey.

  • Entrepeneur and Business owner

At Golden Tech, I specialized in providing patient, one-on-one technology training to seniors and anyone else who needed guidance. My goal was to help each person feel more confident and comfortable navigating today’s digital world, no matter their starting point. From setting up essential accounts like Facebook and email to teaching them how to use smartphones, tablets, and computers, I made sure each session was tailored to their pace and interests.

  • Old dogs can learn new tech tricks! It just takes a curious mind and a little patience!

Beyond the basics, I often found myself discussing topics they were curious about, such as internet safety, online shopping, or connecting with family through video calls. These interactions went beyond technical training; they were also about building trust and giving each person the tools to stay connected and engaged in an increasingly digital world.

Publishing my First Book

The Honest Unofficial Expat Guide to The Netherlands

One of my proudest achievements is the creation of The Honest Unofficial Guide to The Netherlands, a project my partner and I crafted together for expats considering or in the process of moving to the Netherlands.

This book offers a deep dive into our own expat journey, sharing firsthand experiences, stories, and practical tips for navigating life in the land of tulips and canals. This guide is designed to help newcomers settle into their new home with ease.

Mixed Media

Bringing Art to Life

A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.

This quote resonates with me, reflecting the pride I take in my wide-ranging artistic skills. Though I haven’t specialized in a single medium, I find joy in exploring a world of creative pursuits that keeps my heart brimming with inspiration and ideas. From pencil sketches and acrylic painting to mixed media, digital art, jewelry, and mosaics -each medium unlocks new forms of expression. For me, creativity isn’t about following one path but discovering how many ways we can colour the world.
I believe that artists are here to explore endless forms of expression, adding colour and vibrance in all kinds of unexpected places.
